CORRESPONDENCE
THE COUNCIL AND ITS ENGINEERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —From the comments I. have heard concerning your -- article I.U reference to tiie Council's action regarding the Cityi's Engineers ancL the biting criticism of ''Ratepayer,", I judge there is considerable indignation and feeling over the high-handed' .and unfair manner in which the Council has treated its servants, who to all intents and purposes are serving the city well. The action of th e Council puts it ill » most unfavourable light, more particularly some of the Councillors, of whom better things were to be expected. They have shaken the "very foundations of justice, and while '/X think they may have to answer for their conduct as far as individuals ■are concerned, the best means of bringing them to their senses would be.; a petition signed' by ratepayers. I am. confident there would be a large response. A re-opening of the matter on the lines suggested by you would' suffice and remove what is now a general impression, that tiie whole business is a scheme. The method of procedure indicates it. It is for -the Council to remove that impression.—l am, etc., JUSTICE.. Feb. 25, 1918.
