The special Y.iM.C!A. appeal if, meeting with a very genera] response from country districts visited so far by the . town executive committee. At Rockville a very enthusiastic meeting was held, the president of the Rockville and Kaituna Patriotic Association taking the chair. Mrs Lock outlined the vast field of work covered by the Y.M.C.A. in its effort to assist our soldiers, dwelling especially on the tremendous value of this work from a mo>-al and social point of view. It was decided that the (Rockville and Kaituna Patriotic Committee take the appeal in hand, and a general canvass for subscriptions and a gift auction will be in that district. Bainham was visited, and promises of assistance were received. Collingwood formed a committee, and will do its share in a manner to be decided upon later. In. Taka'ka the assistance of the local Patriotic Society was asked for, and, as usual, Takaka is prepared to maintain ist reputation for generous giving to patriotic works, deciding that a general appeal for donations be made and a Paddy's Market heTd, the sum of £250 being set as a minimum for their share. Motueka and ißiwaka are working independently of the iNelson Committee, and hope to raise a considerable sum. At _ Upper Moutere members of the and it was suggested that a produce day be held from there, Mr H. Bensemann offering to convey all donations to town free of cost. At Brikhtwater a meeting was held on evening, representatives attending from Wafmea West, and Spring Grove. A committee was formed in the room, and a meeting will be held almost at once to decide what form the effort will take. Mrs Lock made a strong appeal for the work. On Friday Tapawera was visited, with very gratifying results. Patriotic workers were present from several of the surrounding districts, and a strong committee was formed, Mr A. Drummond, of Riverina, offering to head the list with £SO. Committees were foi-med in Richmond and Wakefield during Mr Varney's last visit to Nelson. •The attempt to form a committee in met with no success. It is intended to visit Happy "Valley on Monday evening, and Waimea West on Tuesday, other dates not being yet fixed • If the town responds to the appeal for funds for Y.M.C.A. war work as readily as most of the country branches seem disposed to do. there should, it is considered, be no difficulty in raising the £SOOO asked for from this district.
