LETTER FROM BRITISH! RED ■ -■ CROSS.*,. ;
Sir Robert Hudson, Chairman ' ! of j the Finance Committee of the' Joint War Committee of the British Red Cfross and St. John Ambulance Association; 'writes in a -recent letter to the Nelstjn Centre as follows : —"The 'Our Day' appeal [last year received such munificent support that at the meeting in to which vou refer, it was incumbein," upon us to inform the public of the satisfactory state of our finances .as -they then stood. ' Since that date, Tiowever, we have had heavy and increasing demands upon our resources, and I regret tosayi that during the same period our rate r receipts has substantially dropped. Each great advance on any one of the battlefrontsVbrings huge new demands. Our need ; now is urgent and- imperative. The activitv of the Allied Forces makes a demand on our funds, which must be met, and we look to our friends and sympathisers all over the world to us to meet the insistent «alls which reach us from our stricken comrades, to .which, so far, we have never failed to respond.'-' • •• ;
