HELPING HAND \SHOP,

Good business was done at the Helping Hand Shop yesterday, and. the 'Red • Cross Fund benefited to the extent of £2B 2s 6d. The expenses were 8s 6d. Contributions were received from Richmond and Waimea West, Girls'- Central, Boys' Central, and Miss Xrightfoot's Schools, and the city. The committee thank the ladies of Happy Valley, Wakapuaka, and Atawhai for their generous help; also the ladies at Tahunanui and in the city, whose turn it was to give. The committee are grateful to the boys for the help they give in delivering the parcels.

THE Y.M.C.A.

The following is an extract from a letter; received by a parent from a Nelson soldier at the front:—"Probably about the same time as you get this you will receive a letter from the Y.M.C.A. I'hey are a great association, and have been an untold, boon to the army out here. I'hey work practically to the front line, and so we are always in touch with them. The officer in charge of this particular branch asked for your address and said that he wanted to write and let you know that I had passed through, as he knew how mothers liked to get outside opinion about the welfare of their, son® out here, ancl he \yas- also going to advise you to send any parcels through the asociation. I thought it avjls'particularly nice' of him, and as to the. advice I think it's good, ,a®. I >m surei -everything will be done to make parcels reach their destinations."
