CONDITIONS AT GAZA
SUCCESS EST SKIRMISHES. LONDON, Oct. 2. • Officers who have returned from Gaza state that the British hold the conquered territory.-' firmly, and have successfully combated -all plagues. The medical services - are 'good. It is ridiculous to suggest- that Gaza .was a second Gallipoh:' All the troops are optimistic, and hqpe for great things as the outcome of th'e campaign. Tlie Light Horse is entirelyvengaged in scouting, patrolling,, and' protecting the long line in open country,"; occasionally skirmishing with enemy parties,; in which clashes it is invariably successful. The country is mainly under orchards and cereals, and, apart from dust, the climate is reasonably congenial. Bedouins are distrusted and taken prisoner at sight.
