-M0... riLY MEETING. The following business was dealt with at the .•aimea County Council yester*' day aiternoon after we went- to press:—From J. F. Allcott, notifying, his intention to charge 6d a load for'all gravel taken off his property, Lower Moutere.—Received. From Mr R, P. Hudson. M.P., informing the Council that the Minister had agreed to place £SOO on the Estimate sfor completion of road from foot of precipice to Mapua conditionally on the Council contributing a similar amount, and stating that he saw no necesity for an interview. A further letter from Mr Hudson stated that the Minister would make provision for a grant of £SOO for completion of the Mapua-Tasman Bluff road, but did not feci disposed to sanction expenditure until he knew exactly how it was to be expended. The Chairman said that the second letter had been received in reply to a letter from the County Clerk asking for pei-mission to proceed with *he work, as it was a case of urgency. The Council was willing to find the money and go on with the work, but the Department would not sanction the expenditure unless certain conditions as to survey were complied with. ..iter some discussion it was resolved on the motion of Cr Hewetson, seconded by Cr Macmnhon, that the Chairman, Engineer, and the mover interview Mr Widdowson. with power to act. From Secretary Moutere Amalgamated F'rnit Lands Ltd., requesting Council to regulate carting of flax over Seaton Valley road. so as hot "to cut up the toad." It was slated that" there would be a fair amount of fruit to" be carted over the road in the summer. —Resolved, that carters be notified thnt if anv undue damage is caused. they will be resnonsible. From Kirk and Wilson. Wellington, on behalf of the engineer* for the Moutere Inlet Orchards Company, re Council's before accenting dedication of certain roads, pointing out that all the work required byHhe Council in a previous letter had been carried out. and submitting that the Council had no power to require further expenditure in regard to metal. —Resolved, on (be motion of Cr Hewitsou, seconded by the Chairman. That the Council's Solicitors' advice be forwarded to Messrs Kirk and Wilson, and that the Council insift on the metalling being done. From A. W. Grindle, Kohatu. applying for permission to carry telephone wire across road.—Granted, under Engineer's supervision - From F. W. Gibbs. Tapawera. requestion clearing of the "Wangapeka track from Rolling River to top of Wangapeka Saddle, and from Wangapeka river to top of Kiwi Saddle.—£s granted. From D. Plaining. Mariri. drawing attention to state o"f the Moutere Bluffs road from Jubilee : Bridge towards Tasman. —£25 to be" expended on the work. From E. H. Bromell, Baton, drawing attention to bad state of the Baton Saddle, which was stated to have been practically impassable for wheel traffic all the winter.—Left to Engineer. From F. I. Ledger, stating that Mr Tillson. of Braeburn. was subdividing ■ portion of his property fronting Holda--1 way's'road, and with access to the Ntr'ntimoti main road, and asking the Council to apply for exemption from the provisions of the Public Works Act. 1908. section 117.—Application to be made for exemption.

GENERAL. Cr Best said that some time ago it was decided to build a email bridge at Appleby crossing. He moved that the work now be done, the Richmond Borough Council to pay half the cost. —Seconded by the Chairman and carried. Councillors brought forward several matters which required, attention in the various Ridings, and the Engineer was instructed to attend to them. The Council then adjourned.
