MEETING OFiNELSONt CENTRE

The monthly meeting of the .Nelson Central Committee of the Red Cross was held at rooms yesterday afternoon. Lock presided. Accounts amounting"*to-.;£21 8s Id " wen passed for payment. '>" . Sr.Robert Hudson, chairman of the Joint Finance Committee, in acknowledging receipt of a farther £3OO from the Nelson fund, stated: "I am desired by the members of the Joint Committee :to express to you our sincere gratitude for this further splendid help and to assure vou all how highly we appreciate "this- generous evidence of your sympathetic interest in the work we are carrying on for the sick and wounded soldiers and sailors." ■Reference was made to the passage in one of Mr Philip Gibb's messages regarding the last offensive which detailed the splendid work done by the Bed Cross on the battlefield, the war correspondent stating that "the Red Cross surpassed itself.* The hon. secretary- (Miss J. Tomnnson) reported as follows: — The sum of £SOO has been cabled to headquarters during the month Amongst the country branches, SpringGrove has been very energetic. Two j very successful functions, an afternoon tea and a Christmas tree, benefited the Red Cross by £4l 10s 4d. '.Of this amount the sum-of £4O was remitted to the Nelson Centre and £1 10s 4d donated to the Spring Grove Red Cross Sewing Guild.
