The recovery of a stolen motor-cycle and side-car under unusual circumstances is reported by the Chri6tchurch Sun. The owner (Mr Stanley G. "Whittal) was returning from .Sumner in a motorcar when he noticed a. man . (Francis Madden) on the r.oadside endeavouring to mend a puncture in the tire of the motor-cycle. He went to the man's assistance, and to his joy found that the jnachine was one which had been stolen from hie outside St.: Mary's Church one Sunday morning. Madden was arrested, and is reported to have admitted to the police that a story he had told to the effect that he had purchased the bicycle and side oar from a man at the Clarendon Hotel for £45 j vvas not true. He was committed for trial.
