THE ENGINEER'S STRIKE
SEVERAL LEADERS ARRESTED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) - LONDON, May 18. :wo members of the Sheffield Strike Committee, have been arrested and brought to London. The police raided the headquarters of the strikers' delegates in London. Seven members of the engineers' strike committee were arrested and charged under the Defence of the ■Realm Act with impeding the supply of munitions. They were remanded. The police also raided a meeting of shop stewards at Walworth and seized papers. No arrests were effected.'The stewards have been most active throughout the country in organising strikes. The Council of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers advised the delegates and shop stewards now attending the conference in London to return to their respective districts and direct the engineers to return to work; and then open negotiations through the trade union leaders. RELEASE OF LEADERS DEMANDED. (Auatrsfiui and N.Z. Oabla AMocUtuxo.) LONDON, May 19. The Sheffield strike committee adopted a resolution that the strike should continue until the leaders were released.
