PALM.ERSTON N., May 15. .At a meetinig 0 f the Ralmerston North hrancli of the Amalgamated Society of JRailwav Servants, the following resolulion was passed: —"That, this meeting <«" the ipalnu'i'stoo North branch, A.S. R.S., strongly resents the unwarranted action of the Railway, Department in instituting tlie 'ballot system for members', as this procedure is entirely antagonistic to the .Military Service Act, and nrges all .'branches to request the Mi nist ex of 'Defence to see that the military authorities carry out the. intentiou's of t'he Act and repudiate any •ballot held or conducted' 'hy the Railway Department."
