' PROPOSED --I>iEFEiNICE'" SCHEME. The inauguration of a "defence'" fund was discussed by the Auckland executive of the Farmers' Union last week:. Some years ago the union in the Wellington Province set up a defence committee, to whose fund several dairy factories and sheepowners contributed. The committee was affiliated to the New Zealand Sheepowners' Federation, with which there was a mutual understanriinc in all industrial disputes. A letter received from the union's Dominion secretary suggested that the Auckland executive, shoulo* set' up a. - similar committee to reccivu any contributions, and to bo the body to which all questions that required special attention could' 'be referredj The exceu- ', five was urged to recommend dairy com- I
/ panies to support the scheme. The letI ter stated that when the war was over, j the readjustment of economic conditions might cause as . much dissatisfaction as i had been experienced through the requisitioning of farmers' produce and the* I scarcity of labour. !It was unanimously decided that, the executive should act as a committee to further tho proposal.
