At tho coal conference the owners submitted their final offer to the_ miners of an additional wa rbonus of 7J, per cent on the pre-war rate* to contract workers. 10 per cent to wages men, making a total increase of per cent and 2 Oper cent respectively on the prewar rates. This offer is conditional on the workin remaining as at present, and also would entail an additional wages payment, of £63.000, making, with the 10 per cent bonus granted last year, a total of £135,000 compared with pre-war rates. The miners later met Sir James Allen. and submitted the offer. They stated that if the employers concede certain modified working conditions, in addition to the bonuses mentioned, they are willing to settle. The owners decline dto go beyond the offer detailed above.. It is understood that the owners will cite, all the unions individually before the Arbitration Court.
