RICHMOND. BOROUGH COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Richmond Borough 'Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, 14th November, at 7.30 p.m. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr Jas. Hunt), Crs. Thorn, Batt, Ingram. Cross, and Rose. Before transacting business the Mayor moved and Cr Thorn- seconded ; , that letters of sympathy on their loss be sent to Mr and Mrs Hart on the death of Gunnev Wm. Allen Carr, and to Mr.Wm. O'Connor on the death of his son at Masterton Camp. Accounts as follow were passed for payment account, £194 16s 7d : water supply account, £2 13s 3d.; waterworks loan account. £66 5s 3d ; Cemetery trust account, 7s ; total £264 2s Id.'

Replie's were received from Mrs Croucher and Mrs Hammond, thanking them for the Council's sympathy, in their loss.

From Mr Littlejohh; giving information re stand' pipes and water valves for Upper Queen-street. It was resolved that the question' of water supply for fire purposes for Upper Queen-street 'be deferred, and that the Water Committee obtain further information. ~

From Messrs Pitt and Moore, enclosing- plan of section on Gladstone-road sold bv Mr •Coleman, and asking-the Council whether they would have portion of the frontage dedicated or exempted from the provisions of section 117 of "The Public Works Act, 1908.' '— Resolved: That this Council declares that the provisions of Section 117 of "The .Public Works Act, 1908"- shall not apply to that portion of Gladstone road between. Queen : street- and Appleby road.

From the Waimea Cotinty Council re cost of bridge over the splash at- Appleby Railway . crossing.—'Received. ■" Resolved : That the Waimea County Council be .written to drawing their attention to the ditch between the Borough boundary and' Mr John Coleman's residence ori the east side of the road, which the sub-committee of the "Council promised to have cleaned out some time ago!. The foreman reported that pipes had been put across Lower Queeri-stfeet, that 11 yards of river gravel had been used for" patching, and that 92£ yards of broken metal had been; put on Queenstreet arid' Gladstone-road ; that the work at.the Reservoir ;is. ; proceeding, but very much interrupted by bad weather. Resolved : That the foreman be granted a Avhole day's holiday for the Show. From Mr R. From the Minister of Internal Affairs re film —rßesblved that the ■correspondence be. filed for future reference.

Two applicants, wrote and offered prices for the. old timber stocked in the Council's yard.^—Resolved that the-, disposal of the timber be left in the hands of the Works. that the letter ";from the Nelson City Council be filed; for the present for future reference.

Resolved, that the Inspector of Noxious -weeds be written to pointing out the growth of Californian thistle in both saleyards in the Borough. Resolved, that the Education Department's attention be drawn to the letter written to the Public Works Department (who were then in charge of the erection of the buildings for defective girls), written on October 15th. stating that the water pipes and connections had to be inspected by the foreman, and that the Department were to put on a 2in. water meter and asking the reason the 'letter has not been replied to. and why 'the instructions were not carried out.j •Resolved, that Mr Ellis be written to ■calling his attention to certain matters connected" with /the light and the lateness of its being turned on, and that the 'Council hopes that it will not toccur . again.

.Resolved, that when the broken metal is put on the road, that it be lightly blinded, and the services of a road roller be obtained to roll it. The information re the night-soil sys-. tem being satisfactory, it was decided to push the matter on as soon as possible, and to that end -a special meeting of the Council was convened for December 12th. The Council then went into committee on the wages question, and it was resolved that Is per day extra be granted to men emoloyed on the enlargement of the reservoir. This being- all the business the Council rose at 10.20 p.m.
