AN3SFCJAX. MEETING.

The annual meeting; of the Nelson Ri-fle Association! was held! at Stallard's rooms last night, Caipifcain G. H. Hammond presiding. The hon. secretary and treasurer (Lieutenant K. Inwood), in his' report for the season 1915-16, thanked the members, and especially Mr George Manning, for the loyal support which had been accorded to him. The association had reason to be pleased with the help which it had received from the public, and the -citizens had to be thanked ioT ■enabling' the balance-sheet to show over £4 in hand. The entries for the championship' meeting numbered 27. as against 47 in 1914-15. and the entrance fees amounted to £2B lis 6d, as against £SO Os 6d. The donations amounted to £2l 17s 6d, as against £l9 8s (including the late Mr T. Cawthron's donation of £5). The' prize-money amounted to £43 17s 6d, as against £52 12s 6d: and the total rhonev handled was £SB 2s lid, as against £72 lis 2d. In conclusion the report pointed out that rifle club members could do a great deal to farther rifle-shootintr if they encouraged young shots, say, cadets, by instructing them in the science of musketry. The result of selfishness would be.that the association would suffer from want of financial support. Unless something were done to draw young shots out, the outlook would be gloomy indeed. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted at follows :—President. Captain G. H. Hammond ; vice-presidents, Lieut.-Colonels Harkness, Pcarless, .Bryant, Coleman, and Andrew Majors Franklyn. Broad, Stiles, Gibbs, and Ching, Captains Arnold, Stewart, and Irvine, Lieuts. 0. Harley, Anstice, Jamicson. and Johnston, the presidents of affiliated crabs (Messrs Alborough), .Kite, ; Ching, and ,T. W. Milroy), Messrs T. A. H. Field, M.P., W. Lock. W. W. Snodgrass, T. Pettit, A. P. Allport. T. Harford, C. Y. Fell; R. Kenning, J. Holland, and J. E. Clear; chief executive officer, Cap"tain Hammond; executive council, Riflemen Day, Milroy. Manssen, Manning, and C. ■■Curnow," jun. ; range officers, Captain Hammond and Sergeant-Major Gardiner; h'andicappers, Riflemen Day, Milroy, and Manssen. It was, resolved that the election of secretary and treasurer stand over till the first meeting of "the newly elected executive council. It was resolved that the championship meeting be held on February Ist, 1917, and that the meeting, be a handicap ; bne. It was resolved that the Irvine Shield match be held ■ in conjunction, with the championship meeting, and thai; the enhance fee be 5s per team. The presentation of a- rifle barrel was made to the retiring secretary {Lieutenant K. Inwood.
