<Rec. Nov. 9, 11.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. Tire extraordinary situation in .the election is dtie to the belated western returns. All New York morning papers, including—the Democratic Journals, announce a swinging Hughes victory and published editorials thereon. This moroimg the Mid-westerni returns ■reduced Hughes' enormous lead. Although .the Republicans are still claiming a victory, the iresu.lt is doubtful, depending largely on California and Minnesota.
_. Meanwhile American papers are .publishing cabled editorials from, London on. Mir Hughes' victory.
