CORRESPONDENCE
MR EVANS'S ADDRESS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —.Air Evans's address on Friday evening was one of the most touching and patriotic yet delivered to a Nelson crowd, and he is to bo complimented on tho outspoken way and honesty of purpose of his delivery. Just fancy 165 people giving one hall of the £25.000. What do "the 25.000 people of this district think of those who can well afford and ■have not parted. Well, may they be ashamed of themselves- I believe with ■him there are still hundreds who can well afford £25 at the least, and there should 'be no trouble in bringing- the amount <uo to £40,000. How would they not have rushed with their £25 if it- had been to keep the Germans from landing here. Then, why not keep on with the list and let Nelson, lads smilo and be sure if thev do return that they're sure of being Veil cared for. We are just now approaching calling the married men in the First iDivision to enlist, and when this comes about you'll see where the (mciney is wanted. Don't keep on saying you don't- believe in the principle. You may just- as well say you don't believe in the war. None of us do; but it's thrust upon us. and our lads are fighting to save us from what those 20.000 women of France and 1 Belgium have gone through, surely worth £25 if only to save one woman from the wretched Hune. I advise those to re-read 1 Mr Evans's *speech. Remember, by .paying von are encouraging our lads to go, and the sooner will the world be set free from the iron rule that we are lucky enough to be free from. Bravo, Mr Evans; keep on. I am, etc.. W.D.
