FURTHER PROGRESS
FIERCE FIGHTING REPORTED
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, Aug. 4, 4.5 p.m. The Petrograd official report says that in the region of Lubechom our. detachments crossed 1 to the left of the Stokhod, taking a series of heights where they fortified' themselves on the river Stavey, a tributary to the left of the Stokhod. We fought river-wards, where we were obstinately engaged; at tlie village Budtta Mir in ska ia. There was bayonet fighting in the street, the village repeatedly changing hands. But it remained' ours, all attempts to dislodge r's failing. The enemy was forced back behind the Stavey, 600 prisoners, and 12 machineguns being taken.
lowards Kotytnica the enemy was repelled by our fire. Elsewhere there is mutual artillery activity.

PETROGRAD, Aug. 4. A communique ireports desperate fighting on the Stokhod. (Rec. Aug. 5, 11.35 a.m.) PETROGRAD, Aug. 4. A communique states:—Our detachments at Lubechoo crossed the left bank of the Stockhod and captured a series of heights. 'Others fought their a-vvay along the banks of the Stavok. After changing hands several times we captured Rudlcami and ißinskaia. GERMAN "COMMUNIQUE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Aug. 5. Enemy attacks at Kovel, Sarny railway, and Brody, were repulsed.
