In the lvport on the outbreak of smallpox on t.he Wilioihra, tabled yesterday by the Hon. G. \V. .Russell, Dr. Valentine draws attention to the efficiency of vaccination. The latest returns, lie says, show that not 1 per cent, of children born iii the Dominion have been vaccinated. Dr. Watt, Healtn 'Officer at Dunedin, in his 'report, cites as evidence that vaccination affords absolute protection against smallpox. O'f five people in constant attendiau.ee upon the Willoehra patients, not one acquired the disease, these people were all protected, one by an attack ol smallpox when a child and four others by recent vaccination. They adopted no special precautions, being confident that they were immune against tixC disease.—Own correspondent.
