TRAIN BLOWN OFF THE LINE.

Department at.Wellington has been advised this- morning .that the 6.40 a.m. train from Paekakariki to Palnierston encountered a terrific gale at Makerua, near Shannon, andi at 9.i0 o'clock all the carriages were blown off the-line, but the - engine did not -leavo the rails. An elderly lady passenger was injured. Particulars of the accident afe meagre, as telegraphic and telephone communication is interrupted. Railway traffic is disorganised. The line was (blocked near Tokomaru for some hours early this- morning, . passengers by the expresses liaving tp be transferred from one train to another. i The gale reached its height about 10 to-day. Further troublo was caused on-the rail-, -way! 'by the Paekakdriki train heing blown off the line near Tokomaru, all the vehicles except- the engine and one waggon leaving the rails. The guard's van failed' to clear the line, causing a blockage of traffic. NoDody was hurt.
