RESULT OF BRITISH OFFENSIVE
FRENCH ESTIMATE OF THE CAPTURES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, Aug. 2. The Bullentin des Armees states that as a. result of the Britsh offensive in the first IS days of July, 12,000 Germans were taken prisoners, and 35 field guns, a naval gun, several Urge howitzers, and an enormous quantity of trench guns. trench, cannon and munitions- were captured.. At least 21 aeroplanes were brought down. Prisoners state that the German losses were so great that they had to call ■op 12 divisions which were resting in other sectors. FRENCH PROGRESS ON THE SOiBEE. (Australian and N.Z. Cabl« Association.} PARIS, Aug. 2. A communique state that we cap(tured trenches between Estrees and Bel-loy-en-Santefre. A German attack west and south of Tbiaumont broke down. Our grenade attack made progress south of Thiatimont. Other German, attacks .were T&pulsed •with great losses.
