MONTHLY MEETING." ]—■ ROCKS RiOA-D SLIP. The following- further business-was transacted at yesterday's meeting of tho : Nelson Harbour Board : . • The City Engineer (Mr J. G. Littlejohn) -waited on the Board regarding the spoil from the slip ou the Rocks Road, against the deposit of which in the harbour the 'Board had protested. Mr Littlejohn said he could not see that putting the spoil over tho wall -would be detrimental to tho harbour. There were some largo Works of debris, and he could see no reason why iiiept should not be, put over the wall. The ■drift-was in the opposite direction to tho harbour entrance. From an engineering point of view, he could not see that any. : injury would 1 be done to navigation by depositing tho spoil over the wall. The Chairman paid the Marine Dvpartment prohibited' spoil being put over the wall, and the Board could l not give permission in face of tliat, prohibition. Mr Littlejohn thoucrht the Department was under a misapprehension. lie was sure navigation would not bo interfered with. The Chairman said it would be a- good idea if the City and Waimea CountyCouncils combined 10 build a -wall further" out and to fill in from time to time» with spoil from slips. There were bound to be some further slips. *■ Mr Littlejohn 'said he had to meet tho County Engineer in Tegard to this matter. 'There would be some big slips in the future, and* df the City Council had to cart the material to town, it 'would be so expensive, that probably'the road would, have to be closed.
