MEETING Ulf GENERAL committee, A meeting' of the General ■Committee of the Nelson 'branch of (the New Zealand Red 'Cross was held at .Hallonsteins' rooms yesterdayi afternoon, Mrs W. Lock presiding. It was resolved 1 to forward to the 31st General Hospital, Port Said, a box of clothing suitable for the' climate, and to inolude papers and magazines. The hon. secretary i(Mis» J. Tomlinson) reported that £450 had' been cabled to headquarters ait London, and the monthly contribution o? £25 paid to the Minister of Internal Affairs towards the relief of sick and wounded soldiers in 'Ensland. >' The hon. treasurer (Mir J. P. Hayes) reported that there wa-% a credit balance ait the bank of £162 10s 9d. The secretary further reported' as fol-lows:—Ba-ndlages to the value of £Bl 7s 9d, the result of a month's work, are ready to 'be despatched to Mesopotamia, via India, consisting of 1723 roller bandages, 480 traa<ri'giula;r bandages, and 1356 many-tail bandages. . This now leaves' 1000 many-tail audi .976 Toller bandages to be made to. complete, the order -for 7000 roller, 30GO triangular, and 4000 many-tail bandages, which-are the. Nelson quota for the order for the Canterbury JRted Cross district. The: bandages have been madta. by jthe- following ; working parties and private individuals from material supplied, "bv the 'Committee: —- ' The Port 'Wbrking .feee, Anglican, Pres--1 bvterian, .and 'Methodist Sewing- Guilds, Christ Church and AJD! The l Port Working Bee deserve special I mention, as they have made in' the last two months 1'145. many-tail bandages, be[sides a quantity of roller bandages'; also. Mi's Eastcott, who tmade all the 3000 triangular bandages. Mrs H. G. Jacfca has packed the bandiages; in benzine cases, which she has carefully lined withpaper and. old (linen. Mr B. O. . (Applause). ,• . - \ ' It. was (resolved tihat Mesdames Lock and Eastcott represent the committee in- conferring with , other 'bodies' on the subject of children collectors, , .in order to secure that properly accredited., persons only collect for the various funds. . The mover of the. resolution spoke of the urgent necessity fori. concerted; ac-. tion, as people. w«r r e being- constantly, pestered! by children whom, it was. pretty certain were no*ti authorised. Accounts amounting to £43 were passed' for payments STOKE BRANCH. ' THE YEAR'S WORK. At the monthlyi meeting of the. Nelson Red Cross yesterday the Stoke.. Branch submitted' the following -statement of v its year's work : —63 pairs- socks, 139 Handkerchiefs-, 61 pairs pyjamas, '2B " und'ervests, 15 pairs imderpants,- iO6~ towels,. 13 paira,. bed-socks,6 pairs: slippers, 47 pillow-cases,. 55 - face cloths,Bo jug covers,. 29nightshirts, 8 cushions, 8 pairs flannel bed-socks, 2 pairs, cuffs, 35. scarves 6 ward tags, old iineii, and "magazines.'' In addition, the sram, of £9B 3s, l0d' ; in cash.had been paid 1 , into.the Nelson fund', included! in thJe amount being- £lO, part of proceeds of garden party held at the Boys' Training Eai'm. . . . . -
