(Rec. Aug. 2, 11.10 a.m.) MILAN, Aug-. 1. Much, importance is attached to the 'ltalian capture of Mounts Cava3lazza and Cblbrieh, With possession of the Bricod Pass and ithe d'eep gorge between them, one of the most important keys of the Upper Trentino. An officer points out that Italy previously vainly tried, for 14 months to batter this 'gate, which has fail en at last, largely as the result of the first time employment of "trench mortars?. The attack began at dfawn with a furious bombardment with heavy artillery, but apparently it was a failure, as the shells' had not penetrated' the narrow gorges. Bombardiers were ordered to try the new rcenc-h mortars. The first bomb was a great success. The IBersaglieri, .in a wild) charge, captured l the summit of Bricon.
