WAKEFIELD. I PUBLIC FAREWELL, SOCIAL, AND PRESENTATION TO MR- AND MRS F. B. PEART AND FAMILY. A most successful social -was held en Tuesdav, the 25th inst., in the Oddfellows' Hall. The Rev. J. D. Dart, Chairman of the School Committee, prosided. . The large attendance of residents of Wakefield and surrounding districts was ample testimony to the universal esteem and respect in which Mr and Mis Peart and family are held. A very excellent programme of vocal and instrumental items was rendered. The Wakefield Band gave selections under Mr Harold Moore's conductorship. Miss Currin and Mr ~K. Eden also contributed items, violin and euphonium respectively. 'The vocalists were Mrs H. Mooro, Miss Thelma. Batt, Messrs Francis and Edwards, and a chorus by 12 girls mid -;r Miss Morrison. Every item received M\£.U deserved encores. At the close c-f the programme three distinct presentations were made to the guests of the evening as tokens of the esteem, and respect in; which thev are held. The first was an illuminated address.. Mr E. Hodgson, on behalf of the public of Wakefield, made the presentation, expressing his own and also the senti ments of all present. appreciation of good work done in the district by Mr Peart and family. The chairman, on behalf of the residents- and parents of the children, past and present, pr-esented Mr Peart and family with a silver tea and coffee service on an oak" tray, and in doing r> •poke in eulogistic terms of the work < i the Peart family, both in and out of the whool. Messrs C. Telenius and E. S. Hoult also paid a tribute to the.arduois and useful service rendered. Special mention was made of the manner in which Mr Peart had kept the district before the public, as a- newspaper cor' respondent. Mr G. Rohertson made the third presentation, a silver-mou'«fesd .walking sticK -uitably inscribed. The illuminated address was the work of Mr H. Moore, *:i excellent piece of workmanship. The chairman called for three cheers for the guests. These were heartily given with musical honours. Mr and Mrs F. Coleman were present by invitation, and the chairman, on bewelcome to them. Mr Coleman, in a brief speech, acknowledged the vote and expressed his appreciation of the opportunity offered, of meeting the people of Wakefield.
