MTNE; SWEEPERS' APPEAL. The Empire appeal on behalf of the mine sweepers of tho North Sea has met wit a satisfactory response from Nelson. As the Dominion gift for this- purpose is to leave Wellington early this week the Nelson portion of it, consisting of one large and one small case was packed and sent, forward by the Kaitoa, on Saturday. The cases contained 89 pairs of socks (nearly all hand made), 47 .-pairs woollen underpants, 57 singlets, 29 Balaclava caps, 40 -mufflers; 4 pairs prloves, 17 pairs mittens (hand made), 2 knitted waistcoats, 6 flannel day shirts, 5 jerseys, one The cable news in this issue accredited to The Times has appeared in that journal, 'but only where expressly stated is such news the editorial opinion of The Times.
