A communique says :—Violent German counter-attacks at Hemm Wood and Monactt Farm, gained a footing. Our coun-ter-offensive drove them out. We progressed southeast of Fleury. THE FRENCH SECTOR. PROGRESS NEAR HARDECOURT. 'Australian and X.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS.. Julv 51. A communique reports a series of bitter combats north of the Somme. North-east- of Hardecourt we captured all the enemy trenches to a depth varying from three to eight hundred metres. We reached the outskirts o£ Maurepas Tillage, and hold the wood northwest of the station at Hem. and the quariy northward of the wood. German counter-attacks were, brokon, -with heavy losses. We repulsed an attack southward of the Thiaumont work. There are severe bombardments at Fleury, Vaux, and Chapitre Wood. j
