NATIONAL RESERVE & NELSON RECRUITING COMMITTEE
PRESENTATION TO MR A. E. HEDOES. , A combined meeting of the National Reserve and the Recruiting Committee was held! on Saturday evening for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr A. E. hferiges, who is leaving for Trent-ham tomorrow morning, and expressing appreciation of the secretarial and other services he has rendered to those bodies. Lieut.-Colonel Citing presided. Mr Hedges had felt the •all to enlist and they could not but coniratulate him on his patriotism. His friends hoped he would attain commission rank, and wished him God-speed and a safe return. HJedges. The chairman the.u. presented. -Mr Hedges with a wristlet watch amid cheers. Mr Hedges, in reply, said he verymuch appreciated the kind remarks, and would highly value the useful gift. It had been a pleasure to him to do what he could for the National Reserve. It had met with disappointments, but he hoped it would go ahead. He took an interest in anything connected with mi.ltarv work. Be went to South Africa with the First Contingent, and he had felt it to be his duty in the present crisis to offer his services to his country._ He had been selected as a non-comrmssio.-iecl officer. He had been eieht years in JN elson, and had many pleasant memories >f that period.
