A RECORD AIORNING. [ Enormous quantities of foods came in this morning for the produce stalls. There was a large attendance of buyer.' - and record business was done. The Rangers' stalls were in charge of Richmond and IHope, both of .which districts responded most liberally to the call for produce, the result being a fine collection of produce of all descriptions—vegetables, fruit, meat, jams and preserves, etc. The respective stallholders were Mesdames Hunt (Mayoress), E. JThomas. T. B. Chisnall. W. R. Alay. W. Eden, Bovce, Messrs Hunt. G. Wearing, Thomas, Claridge. A well-stocked flower stall was in charge of Alisses Hunt (2) and Win. The jams and preserves were under the care of Nurse Field, Airs F Lustv, junr.. Afcssrs Eden (2) and Joynt. The Guards' stall was again replenished with full supplieK of useful linen, and was kepi busy. Those in charge of this stall on Wednesday were Mesdames ■Clark. Sherman, J as! Eves, and Miss G. Palmer. To-day a fresh draft took up dut\ at; follows :—Alesdames Clark, Mathers. Hill, Silcock, Alias Fairey, Alessrs E. S. Fairey and H. Palmer. There was a, plentiful supply of meat, including -wild pig. The latter was quickly \snapped up. Air Horton had a busv time attending to customers. Abundant fresh supplies came to hand for the Bombardiers' produce stall. The ladies who have charge of the tea kiosk wish to thank Air A. Neil. CityGas Engineer, 'for installing a gas .stove and extension pipes. This has proved a great convenience, for not only is the water boiled with it. but the stove is I very handy for keeping pies hot.

TUG-OF-WAR. A large number of spectators attended the continuation of the tug-ol'-wa" last nisjht, when there were some wellcontested pulls. The results were as follows :

Waimea Swimming Club beat Kir's Patrick's. Bombardiers teat Railway. Mental' Hospital beat Grenadiers No. Vi, Fusiliers beat, Grenadiers No. 1.

Green's beat National Reserve Band

The special contest between the 12th Regiment Band and the National Reserve Band was won by the former. The trophy for this was presented byMessrs S-quires and Hoby. The Bauds will meet again this even-

m<r. The main contest- will then be coutinnued, the drawing being as follows: Kirkpatrick's v. Fusiliers. Mental Hospital v. Green's. Bombardiers v. National Reserve Baud Waimea Swimming Club, a bye. Post entries will be received for the single rope pull and the lazy stick competition. The ladies' tug-of-war will take place to-morrow nisht. Entries will close tonight at 9 o'clock. These have 'been dressed, and will be sold on Saturday morning at Paddy's Market. The Rangers also received a sheep from another farmer. HOPE AND RANZAU. A most successful drawing-room entertainment was given in Hope School on Wednesday evening, and the committee are delighted that*"their efforts re■warded by -a. bumper attendance. The. audienoe had the following programme: Gramaphone selections from 7.30 till opening; pianoforte duet by Misses Max and Fairevi: sonus by Mr "Snaddon, Mrs Jacobsen," Mr Wheatley, Mrs W. H. Mav, Miss Hanby; monologues by Mr T>uffv ; humorous anecdotes, Mr A. Wilkinson. Mr Syd. Bush gave a recitation entitled "A Bush Christening," and was loudly encored. One of the best items was a characted song entitled "The Old Soldier." 'Mr Wheatley was in uniform of an old. veteran and delighted the audience with his impersonation, and, o,f course, got a determined encore. Nearly all pieces were encored, proving that they were appreciated. Miss Hanby was in splendid voice, and her song, * "Red Roses," was rendered very finely. An interesting time-guessing competition was taken during the interval for a handsome clock given by Mr Wilkinson, and a similar one is promised for next Wednesday's concert at Richmond. The novelty fete in Mr P. Hall's mounds next "Wednesday is likely to be a great success. "Full particulars will be advertised. Mr C. Webley is bringing an orchestra from town and motor 'buses will run from town for 2s 6d return, the whole proceeds to go to the funds. This will he a great opportunity for an afternoon in the country cheap and a full programme of amusements as well.

An interesting feature <*f the procession on the 3ist in.st., will be a number of Mnrchison schoolboys dressed up m tvpical Maori fashion. They have been very successful in collections on behalf of the local fund, and have expressed a, willingness to come to Nelson if suitable travelling arrangements can be made. A number of local firms are to show their interest in the procession, several having intimated their willingness i<> take part. The Sharpshooters ol Motueka will be represented by their Princess, officers and' supporters, whilst the Guards of Wakefield will make a n interesting display. The Boys' Training Farm Band. Stoke, w.ill play the eountry armiee into their places of assembly. Tradesmen, etc.,, who have not yrt done, so are requested to enter an exhibit for the profession on the 31sl.

The Brightwater section of the Waimea. Guards' Army held a very successful social at the Rechabite Hall on Wednesday, givin ga farewell and presentation to several of the "boys going to the front, namely. Corporal Riekctts, Corporal Stagg. and 1 Privates Biggs and McLachlan. Corporal Tomlmsou, of Waimea West, also was present. The evening was pased very pelasantly, and J songs, recitations, musical items, | speeches, etc. were given. Competitions, sales of cakes tray cloths, etc. which were put up by the generous buyers again and again, 'making a very respectable addition to the funds for the Brightwater section. Miss C.
