ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer (Mr G. S. Whiteside) reported on the various ridings, inter alia: —Maitai Riding: Work on the Hairpin Bend; grant had- been commenced'. The usual maintenance work had been carried out-.' It was badly located!, and as crooked as it was possible to mwe It. It "was too narrow as at present formed to be metalled satisractorny. Tfcie bridges were weak and narrow. 1° reform, and metal would cost abcut £3500. The motor bridge at W. Stade s, Bosedale, had! been completed. Another motor -bridge was required at BeuKes, Neudorf. Tunnichfi s motion to notify certain .property owners m 88 Valley to clear nox ous weeds from theii frontages, in the meantime some patcji- ' intr to be done on -the road. _ On the Chairman's motion it was resolved to notify property owners to clear noxious growths from their fiontaees within two months and m the event of the work not bemg done the ■Council to do the same at the.property v» owner's expense. Resolved that as many councillors as possible visit Best's creek, Dovedale in connection with .proposed br.dge, with power to act. . .. Resolved to erect a motor bridge over creek near Goodali's, Tadmor. : A vote of thanks was accorded! Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P., for .procuring a vote for a 'bridgo over Hopwood s creek, Wangapeka. Resolved that a new culvert be put in on road opposite Walter Beatson's, on the Ulotueka River road. On Cr. Hewetson's motion it was Tesotved to widen -the br.dge over creek near Beuke's, Neudorf- and make it available for motor traffic. On the chairman's motion it was resolved to serve notice on all property owners along the NgatimofcL Hill road, - from the Motueka boundary to the Black : Bridge to clear noxious growths from their frontages. aiOUTERE; ROADS. It was resolved, before declaring the Mooters Lagoon, road a main road', to ' give notice to property-owners tb clear . noxious growth, the grader then to be put oi» and metalling proceeded with. ■ Ratepayers having consented- to the raising of a special loan of £SOO for metalling ±3ie Motrtere Inlet road, the Council passed a special order authorising the xaisiog of, the money.. A letter was received front the Superintendent State Advances Office re •Council's application for permission to raise a loam of £SOO for metalling the '3lontere Inlet road, intimating that the request would- probal>ly be favourably considered, provided that the sale of de"bentures would yield' to the ai return ■ not exceeding 5a per cent, interest. ■ Messrs A. McKee and A. P. Allport •waited on the Council regarding the sale of the Mudflat road. Mr MoKee said ihsut there were from 250 to 300 sott'.ers •in the new district, and the -road was so bad that the settlers were <practically isolated. Those using the a-oad took their lives in their hands, and the position was most serious. It was felt that the itame had come when the road should be declared a main road. The people were prepared to help themselves. The suggestion fthevj had to make was that the Council -should' form and metal a strip of aibout 20 chains, which \vas the key to the whole situation, and also do some metalling on Harley s Road.
