RIWAKA.

MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS

A special meeting of householders was held in the Riwaka School on Monday last, May 22nd. Mr S. Rowling- was voted to the chair ,and presided over a fair attendance.

The chairman explained that the meeting had been called to discuss the position with regard to the necessary enlargement of Riwaka School. He then asked the chairman of the School Committee to place the position before the householders.

Mr Jefferies thereupon referred to the repeated efforts of the Committee in endeavouring to get an enlargement of the school, and stated as all efforts had so far failed it b,ad ibeen decided to call a meeting of the Riwaka parents to see if matters could foe hurried on.

After a discussion of the position, the meeting adjourned to the western porch to inspect same, and general dissatisfaction was expressed that it should have to be used for class "work.

On resuming it waa resolved: (1) That the Committee prepare the necessary petition, and after getitng signatures from parents and l householders forward it to the Education Board in time for its next meeting; (2) that the Education Board be asked to request Mr Coltman, the Health Inspector, to inspect the school, and report on its sanitary condition ; (3) that the form of petition- which "was presented to the meeting be adopted; (4) that the chairman of the School Committee wait on the Board and support the petition: (5) that the expenses of the deputation be paid by the householders. After a vote of thanks to the chair the meeting terminated.

WAKEHELD.

THE JUVENILE ODDFELLOWS' LODGE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Wakefield Juvenile Lodge held its anniversary on Wednesday evening at the Oddfellows' Hall, Wakefield. Thirtyeight members of the Nelson Juveniles, %vith their Superintendent, Bro. Prebble, and several adult members journeyed, to Wakefield, in Grants' Motor waggon. A very pleasant time was spent in harmony. During the evening a presentation of a gold medal was mae by the Grandmaster Bro.' Liddle on behalf of the Nelson district to Bro. Eden for proposing the most members during the year. After everyone had done justice to the fine spread, prepared and cheers were exchanged, the boys left for town arriving at about 10 o'clock, all agreeing that they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
