GERMAN COMMAND STRIVING FOR RESULT. (Rec. May 26, 8.50 a.m.) PA~RTS, May 25. A semi-official message .says the fighting at' Verdun, continues with the fiercest -violence. The fighting on Wednesday assumed a desperation not reached, since the struggle began. The German, command is determined,- at all cost to obtain a result, and is more than ever prodigal in sacrificing the men. Te Bavarians at Douanmont made repeated and untiring and desperate assaults, flbufc the French infantry made a veritebie massacre, showing marvellous bite in. its resistance, against which the most furious assaults ■were successively broken. Eventually the Germans at the end o£ the day penetrated the fort. • At present the conflict surpasses all its predecessors, and is really a general "battle. It began -with French initiative with the attack on Fort "Donaumont oii Wednesday, and may be de- . cisive. The slopes east and north of the fort are covered "with German, corpses.
