He may return and show t His strength still verile ; and thy vict ry blurr'd With frost and sleet, whilst thou, deluded bird, Art silent for a time amid the snow. Save thy brave voice, until the west winds blow. And spring awakens?, though so long defeTr'd ! Then; let thy notes break forth in songs againWith wild rejoicings and with, songs of praise t . To Spring triumphant over Winter s bate. For lo! thine enemy lies slain—lies slain ! Glad earth accepts the Sovereignty of Fate, And glows with happiness and halcyon days. Horacp Smith, in the Times.
