Dr. M'Nab this , afternoon, urging that legislation be introduced' for closing hotel ; bars at 6 p.m. fox* the ported of the war, and six months, thereafter. The views of the deputation, were stated >by several business men. wTio emphasised the fact that it was not a deputation of abstainers or Prohibitionists. Petitions were tabled containing ths? signatures of over 2000 ad'ult residents within the boi'oiigh. > \ Dr. Mi' Nab, in replying, stated that as a member of the Cabinet he could not speak as .ah individual, but only with-the united voice of the Cabinet. He stated that just -before he • left_ Wellington Cabinet -came to- -a decision t-o introduce anti-shouting legislation. _He was not free to state whether' had yet reached a decision on the earlyclosing! question. Information had been gathered from other countries, and, the representations of the deputation would be clearly placed before his -cbll-feagues. He could only assure them, that' licensing legislation would be introduced this session.
