DISTURBANCE ON IAMBTON

Shortly, after 10 o'clock on Thursday evening a regrettable" disturbance in which the police,,. soldiers, and civilians were concerned, occurred near llie Lam>b-ton-qnay Police Station. ' Enquiries made by, a ( reporter show that" Constable* Tocker attempted t to effect the a 'soldier who Is' alleged to have ooni'anitted »aw indecent act in Woodward' street while in a- state of tion. There was'no frouble iintil other soldiers intervened-and attempted tq rescue comrade fromi the policeman!. A large crowd soon gathered, and'a number of civilians assisted .and incited the soldiers to further violence. Sergeant O'Sallbnan and Constable Harrison arrived on the scene later, but this only increased the violence of the* mob. Every effort was made'io. getf the jjqldier to the I police station, but the resistance put up by the soldiers' and civilians proved too strong. The constables' were knocked to the ground, and in the rough and tumble, Sereeant CHalloran was injured in one of the eyes, while the two constables were .severelv kicked .about the .legs and bodv. During the melee the arrested" soldier got awaj. The -police state that throughout the disturbance civilians openly incited the soldiers to resist the. police. I
