RED CROSS BRANCH. - During the hop-picking season opportunity was taken by the "workers in some of'the gardens to devote a of the pi-oceeds of their picking to the local Red Cross Branch. At Mr Robert Atkins' garden, Wbakarewa x the number of "bushels picked was 606, representing the amount of £6 6s 3d, and Mr Atkins has generously made up the amount to £7. Afternoon tea was served in. the garden, for which the small charge of 3d was made, the sum of £1 17s being the amount realised. There were a number oE visiting helpers present .and a very pleasant as well as remunevnUve afternoon was spent. Mr George Atkins, of Riwaka, also kindly gave permission for a Kedi Cross picking in his garden, the pickers ono , and all unanimously falling "in with tho suggestion. The result of tlio afternoon's work was 342 bushels, and. ,Mi* Atkins has handed to t'ho Fund the sum of £4. A very pleasant afternoon "was spent, visitors and . pickers thoroughly enjoying the very excellent tea provided and served fay Mesdames A. ! Ryder and G:- Atkins. 'Still another garden,'that of Mr. John Inglis, Riwaka., lias generously aided, the Fund by the united efforts of its pickers' from whom the sum of 17s 5d has been received.
