NELSON HOMING CLUB
RACE FROM " RUSSELL: The Nelson Homing Pigeon Club held a, race from Russell on Tuesday, 468 ■miles air line. The birds were .liberated by the chief officer of tho s.s. Clansman in fine -weather, -with, a southerly wind. The throughout' the North Island -were generally unfavourable, southerly wind'' "with ' -cloudy and hazy weather prevailing. No ■ birds"'re* gained their lofts by nightfall. ''They, however, arrived home " early .'next morning- The first two birds finished very close together. Tliei actual Hying time was 16 hours 55 nrius. An allowance of eight iiours being-made. for daTkness. Following are the results: 1. Hockov Bros." '"The Mite." 16hrs
55mins. 2. H. Simpson's '•Timid.'' 16hrs 56|in. 3. A. Simpson's "Maori," 18hrs 15mins. The club desire to thank Mr Cbwsill (Auckland) for transhipping the birds, and the chief officer of the "Clansman" for attending to and liberating- them.
