PERMANENT PICTURES

There was a large audience at the Empire Theatre last evening, and the new series met with the 'utmost appreciation. The programme was headed by a thrilling; -Vitagraph star feature, entitled "Enemies." This .vividly tells the story of Captain, Waver ley, who has vowed vengeance on the betrayer of his dead sister. He recognises in Saa-gent, a lawyer, the man for ■whom he has searched, and plans to take him as mate on a voyage. The seamen are treated in the old-fashioned rough manner on this boat, and the captain has < opportunities of commencing his vengeance. At last in a brawl Sargent is fatally hurt, and Waverlsy then reveals his identity. In the moonlight, the captain sees his enemy now dead. A fine supporting serier>* was screened, including a most interesting Topical Budget, a Vitagra.ph comedy, and other items. This bill will be repeated to-night.

The School of Music was again well attended last night when-"The Jungle" was finally screened. There will , b.\ no pictures shown until Saturda.y, when a special feaure of the pronramme will be a picturisation of .Stuart Edward White's novel, "Conjuror's House." This picture is tha greatest story of the Canadian North ever filmed, and was taken in the exact locale of the book amid the snowclad mountains of the silent and savage North-West, and cost £IO,OOO to produce, being one of the most artistically arranged and most minutely detailed producions yet presented. Richmond will be visited as usual to-night, and a special visit will be made to Wakefield to-morrow night (Friday).
