i THE RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE ENEMY THROWN BACK AT CHAR-TORYSK. PETROGRAD, Jan. 3. A communique states that the. enemy northward of Oliartorysk ' were twice driven back l with heavy losses. There was a- particularly fierce fight near Czamovitz, where we occupied several heights. GERMAN MESSAGE. , (Rec. Jan. 4. 11.25 a.m. ) BERLIN, Jan. 3. A German official message savs that on the eastern. front there have been minor engagements in which the Russians were unsuccessful.
