NAVAL ENGAGEMENT IN THE ADRIATIC
ROME, Jan. 1. An Austrian cruiser and five destroyers attempted to repeat the exploit of bombarding Durazzo. They were allowed to approach and open fire, and, then an Italian, British and French cruiser squadron appeared. A seaplane launched from an" Austrian cruiser just had time to notify that the Allies were coming, when a shot through the motor sent the seaplane headlong into the- sea. , The Allies attacked the squadron, whUo' torpedoers attempted to cut off the retreat. The seaplane's warning, however, enabled the Austrians to fly, leaving the Triglav and Lika iu a sinking, condition. Some of", the Lika's cre;w were taken prisoner, but< the Trigk>7- sank with all hands.
