'Sir Joseph Ward' said-- it had' been remarked) that horses at Trentham camp were suffering f-roin strangles and mud fever. He desired' to know -if the Gro.yernimenfc had' received any report on. .the subject. ■ i Hon. James Allen-said that .no such report had been received. The horses were all in wn> exceedingly good 1 condition. .
Sir Joseph W r ardi said; lie also desired' to ask t'he 'Government whether, in- their opinion, it was desira'ble to have another camp -apart from. Trent'ha>m. There was. considerable anxiety about the state of the healtih of the an en in cwm-p. His opinion- was that 'the camp' should 1 be shifted, and t?iere should be a camp for both Islands.
Tihc Hon. .James Allen contenid'ed that Trentham wa's perfectly healthy, and' that, everything that could be done was being done to cheek the epidemic. .S'ir Joseplh . asked why the voluntary contributiows -which: had' been made towards the hospital at Trentliain ha*! notbeen expended', and! why -the hospital had' not been established.
Mr Allen replied) that the contract, for the building -hadi been let, and should ha've beeiu finished on 27tlh June. It had not beeb finished by the contractor, who was being ' fined' for every day the building remained incomplete. He was making* oncjuiry as to whether it 'would not to take tile work out of th'e contra'cior 3 ® hands. - ••
