A young "man named -Stephen Curtis, who had pleaded guilty to several charges of embezzlement, came up for sentence to-day. Counsel explained that accused's lapse was due to unfortunate speculation. When the war started ho immediately volunteerea and "went .to Egypt, earning the good opinioijs of his officers, Avho "ivere willing to take him •back, destitution of the amount "would be made and counsel asked that Curtis be allowed to return to the "War. 1 The Chief Justice said that if the Defence Department would take accused back he would grant probation.
