MOTOR CAR DRIVERS AND ALCOHOL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I wish to raise a protest against the growing practice of passengers on motor cars treating the drivers to alcoholic drinks while on a journey. It is well known that a motor car driver needs a cool brain and a steady nerve in order that he may be ready to meet all emergencies. 'lt is also well known that alcohol in all its forms produces an excitement which has a tendency to make the driver reckless and insensate to danger. We may laugh at the narrow escapes which many travellers have when travelling with drivers under the influence of'stronc drink. • If the practice is persisted in, it maj be necessary, in the interests of the public, to bring in legislation which will prevent any man taking strong drink while he is engaged in driving a motor car. I am, etc., H. O. HOLDAWAY. (Certain portions of this letter have had to'be deleted).
