G. Hill (general manager of the Bristol and Dominions | Producers' Association) stated to an i "Otago 'Daily Times" reporter on Tues- ] day evening that he had received a cablegram from IBristol a few days ago on | the question. The communication stated that the British Government was urgently in need of hides and skins, and it was suggested that every endeavour should be made, from a patriotic standpoint, to get consignments. The intimation gave an assurance that Great Britain was prepared to pay as high a price for these commodities as could be obtained in other markets. Mr Hill mentioned that the question- was dealt with some time ago by the 'Central Chamber of Commerce at "Wellington, which had recommended the Government to prohibit the export of foodstuffs to other countries, , as well as the export of hides and skins.
