MASTER BAKERS AND THE GOVERNMENT.

Referring lo the price of flour, the annual report of the New Zealand T'nited Master Bakers" Association says : "Owing to the outbreak of the mostdeplorable war in the history of the world, and other causes, the price of flour has boon very high during the lat-ter--portion of the year, and bakers in various parts of the Dominion nave been unable to adhere to the tariff as adopted by the conference. • : It- was apparent to the executive during the earlier stagps of the war that baker-: would be placed 111 a very serious position regarding the supplies of flour, especially in view of the embargo placed on flour imported from Australia (the embargo placed by the Commonwealth Government against the export of flour). "Your executive approached the Prime Minister to have the embargo removed, especially regarding contracts already made, and also the removal of the duty off imported flour, and we are pleased to report that the Prime. .Minister's efforts were successful in the first instance, and the Department generously acceded to our request in the latter."
