Jhe meeting of women convoned bv the -Mayoress of Nelson (Mrs W.. Lock) last evening to make arrangements for collecting lunds and garments for tho lelict of distress in Great Britain during the war, was very largely attended, Th* M Chan \ ber bom S crowded. . (From Our Own Corerspondent.) In response to the appeal/by Lady Liverpool on - behalf of tho Expedition*orce, the Mayoress (Mrs G. E Chisnall) convened a meeting of ladies on Monday afternoon. There was a very good attendance, . fr<> :r , which a strong committee was chosen, with Mesdames E. J. Thomas and Uovco as secretaries. It was decided to open, subscription lists and canvassers wore* appointed to wait on tho ladies in the various parts of tho borough. In the evening tho meeting convened lij the Mayor, was also enthusiastic, and after a discussion it was decided to collect subscriptions towards the fundi provided for tho relief of distress in Great Britain, and a committee consisting of the Mayor aud Councillor*, and Messrs Hunt, Bell, Mnv, F W Smith, Boyce, Heslop, G. Field, Revs. Carr and Eaton, was (appointed. Mr Boyce was appointed secretary, and tho Mayor to act as treasurer. Ihe district, was divided, and canvassers appointod for each division. Iho meeting also instructed the Mayor to forward to Mr Massov a message, expressing appreciation of his work m connection witli tlid pvosont crisis. May to make arrangements for the ladies and schoolgirls to mako a. supply of clothing to bo forwarded to Oroa-f Britain to relieve the very acute distress occasioned directly or indirect!v by the war. In patriotic spirit. Mr W. R. May lias arrange that all material used may bo procured from him at wholesale prices, which concession shoukl ho very acceptable to those interested.
