An incipient fire was discovered in a linen locker on board the Union Company's Rosamond at about 2 a.m. on Sunday last, while the vessel was bound from Gisbome and White Island to Auckland. The outbreak was attributed to a loose match being gnawed by a rat. The fire was; extinguished before much damage had. been done, a very small quantity of ship's, linen being, charred.
