The weather is now clearing, and' prospects are for a fine day. This is a red letter day in the history of the turf in this district, the occasion being the opening of the Jockey Club's' < newbuildings, including a grandstand seating fifteen hundred people, officials' stand, tea kiosk, and totalisator hou;:e, erected at a cost of £25,000. The appointments are now as up to date as any in the Dominion. A record attendance is expected. The Government will be represented at the opening ceremony by the Hons. Fra«er aJid Bell, and a number of legislators will also be present. Longlands Hurdles.—Cousin Jack 1, Lamsdorff 2, Papalitz 3. Scratched: Golden Water. Won easily. Time, 3.49^. Maiden Hack: Rigo Park 1, Hymen 2, Munje 3. Scratched : Aviation, Omanawo, King's Host, Eleonia, Black Powder. Won by two lengths; time 1.13. Porangahau Handicap: Valhalla ,1, Lady Louisa 2, Day Fly 3. Scratched : Adroit, Souci. Won bv a length; time 1.25.
BLENHEIM RACES. BLENHEIM, This Day. The Marlborough Placing iClub's Autumn Meeting opened in fine weather, with a large attendance, and the course in good order. Results : Maiden Hack: Haumakaha 1, Elevate 2, Achillenes 3. Won by two lengths. Scratched : Dalesford, W : hisperer, St. Curio, Mollemotte, Portland, Flame, Silverstream. Time 1.17. Uebrook Welter.—Great Mogul 1, Epworth 2, Stepney 3. Scratched : Manitau. W r on by half a head. Time, 1.29 2-sth.
