Says the Dannovirke "Evening News": "After returning to the paddock at the conclusion of the "Welter Handicap at Elfcrslie. Kawccu started coughing, and eventually brought up a hard piece of mud. The mare probably swallowed the ir.ud during the race, as sh-e surprised her rider on one occasion by faltering, and almost stopping dead. That little piece of dirt may have cost her the race, as when she uofc going again she simply buried everything for pace. The post, however, was too close.
