STOKE. IJOAD BOARD. The monthly rnee; in,;' of the Stoke Road Board was held' on Saturday evening, there being present Mo.-isrs Jo.eph K. Bartlett. John Best. Thomas ]». Chisnall, H. T. Palmer. A. P. Allport, and David CJiblin. The clerk took the chair, mid announced the result of the recent election, the whole of the members above net out being elected unopposed. On the motion of Messrs Allport and Chf.nall, Mr 'Bartlett was elected i hairman, a compliment whijh Mr Bartlett acknowledged in a brief speech, stating that in the the members of the Board worked together in a most cordial way, and he hoped, as bp fell sure would be the case, the same plonrant relations would continue. The chairman took occasion to welcome to the Board meeting. Messrs H. T. Palmer and D. friblin. 'Mr Bartlett further referred to the retirement of the late chairman, Mr William Coleman, who. & services he eulogi -ed. The overseer (Mr John Glen) reported that in Stoke the ditch on Mars:?en's road hnd been cleared out, and in-truc-tions given to the roadman to* start repairs at Tahunanui on Monday morning. He had been, able to make a very satisfactory arrangement with Mr Knglebrecht for out ing down'bank en road through Hur;thoiise Estate, Fairry's road and the Stoke back road reoufrcd repairs, whi-h would be put in hand. Tn the Appleby district ruts had been raked in and gravelling done en Bell's and' Church roads. In the Hope district a cement culveit had been put in on Campbell's road, and water drained away near Paton's , gate. The culvert at the corner of Appleby and M-'lcrhn's roads had been repaired. The ditch on FauhaU"s road required clearing to avoid flooding the road, and this would be done. The report was adopted.

The members for the diftriet were deputed to go with the overseer when he inspected the work at Tahunanui. - Accounts amounting to £47 Were passed for payment.
