NELSON CLUB COMPETITIONS

The first round for the "Encounter" shield will be played on Saturday. I'n former years this competition has caused a good deal "of interest, and a large number of players are expected.to take part this season.

Status matches have 'been commenced, and the results handed in to date are :—Richmond beat N. Rout, 3 up and 2; Devtfhish beat O. Dodds,- 2 up ; Pollock beat J. PI. Cock, 3 up and 2; H. Cock beat J. H. Cock, 4 up and 3; Brodie beat ;Spear, 1 up ;McCabo beat H. Cock. 2 up and 1; Dcvenish beat McKee, 7 up and 6; C. Rout beat Palmer, 3 up and 1. The first Encounter match 'for, ladies was played on the Tahiina links on Tuesday, and rosulted in a win for Miss xiarkness. The best cards given in were Miss Harkness with a nett score of 81, Miss F. Maginnitv 85, and Miss Dimant 90. 'On Tuesday, the sth May, the first senior medal match will be played, players choosing their own partners. After the match a. farewell afternoon tea in honour of Mrs A.. P. Burnes will be given.
